I believe that many people are annoyed by the new start screen in Windows 8/10. Unlike before in Windows XP or 7, you cannot drag whatever you want to pin directly to the start screen now. So, how can we pin items to start screen and customize it to the ideal setup? It is not really a convenient task now, but you can still accomplish it within minutes.
First, for the unwanted pinned items, you can right-click on them and select “Unpin from Start” to remove them. And for those items that are too big or small for you, you can simply right-click it and select “Resize”. Drag them to the desired location and it’s done. If you have the habit of pinning many stuff to the start screen, but don’t want to make the start screen too big, you can categorize the similar items into a folder by dragging one icon on another. This will allow you to create a folder like structure and make more room for other items.
Now, the most important part of this tutorial is pinning whatever items you want to the start screen. First, you need to find this location: ” %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\ ” (Without “”). All you need to do is to paste the items that you want to pin to the start screen, and they will now show in the start screen “All Apps” section, and you can now right-click them and select “Pin to Start”. VOILA!
Happy customizing folks!
