[Minecraft] How To Install Different and Separate Mods for Multiple Profiles

When you are installing mods, you probably just toss every files right into the “mods” folder in the main folder called “.minecraft”. This is not wrong, but have you ever thought about the situation that you install two different versions of forge and you want to play with separate mods? Putting all the mods into “mods” folder will make two forge installation have trouble finding the mods that each of them needs to load. For me, I found this problem when I wanted to keep my original 1.7.10 forge and its mods and install a 1.10.2 forge to play with some latest mods and new vanilla blocks. After few hours, I finally found the perfect solution. Hence, today I am going to share it with you.

Let me list it step by step with screenshots (still processing):

  • Prequisition: you need to install forge for desired version first. Here is the tutorial about installing forge.
  1. So first, go to the game folder (.minecraft) first, the route is different on different OS (windows:%appdata%\.minecraft , Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft , Linux: /Home/.minecraft ).
  2. Second, create a new folder and name it whatever you want. For me I prefer to name it the same as the profile.
  3. Later, open the minecraft launcher and create a new profile you desired, and set its game directory to the folder you created.
  4. That’s about it. Now you can just put mods directly inside the folder you created and play multiple separate versions! Have fun!
